I made this card to further explore inking different backgrounds. It was fun and I got kind of playful. Here's my breakdown of how I did it.
- Altenew Butterfly Dreams set
- Altenew Pigment ink in permanent black
- Altenew Fresh Dye ink sets in Golden Sunset, Sweet Dreams and Enchanted Garden.
- Altenew Fresh Dye ink in Coral Berr
- Altenew mini blending brushes
- Altenew white cardstock
- Die cutting machine and frame die
- Gold cardstock
- Metallic gold marker
- Glue
- Cut a 4.25"X5.5" (A2 size) piece of white cardstock. Also create an A2 foldover card from blank cardstock
- Using ever-so-soft pressure, swirl a buildup of colors onto the front of the card and on the cutout frame. I used three inks to create the background. I found that inking the frame a darker color made the frame more of a presence and that is what I wanted. The butterflies fly on top of, within and under the frame.
- Use die cut machine and frame die to cut large area out of smaller piece of white cardstock. This leaves a frame.
- Use Butterfly Dream dies to cut out birdcage and branches on gold cardstock
- Spend a moment to plan your layout. You will be gluing dies onto the front of foldable card. Later you will end up gluing the frame cutout onto the front of the card. I used light pencil markings to let me know where my assembled gold cage would be. Then, I glued branches where they would go, under the birdcage at parts. Then, I glued birdcage sitting atop the branches.
- Stamp the butterflies in layers. Have some parts of the butterflies be out of view - either off the paper, under the frame or behind a part of the cage.
- Paint parts o the wings with gold metallic marker.
- Glue frame onto the front of card.
- Stamp your sentiment onto the front of the card.
Lovely design!!! I also like how you made it so simple for others to make by going step by step!
ReplyDeleteI find only having written instructions sometimes hard; that is why I couple it with a brief video explanation of main points. Thank you for your response.
DeleteBeautiful Card!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim, it was fun to make.
DeleteLove the idea of no door. This is a gorgeous shelter for those vibrant butterflies! TFS!
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz, I used to have birds and I kept them in a cage but now that am older, i do not want an imprisoned pet. By the way, what does TFS stand for?
